I LOVE to ride! I rode a V-Star 1100 for 8 years and close to 60,000 miles. Had it dialed in just how I wanted it, and I couldn't imagine a better bike. Then I got my '08 SG last summer and I get it now. I'm not a Harley snob by any means....ride what you love to ride....just ride! But I truly get what you're saying!
I traded my 2005 Yamaha Roadstar in for my 2012 Street Glide. I invested thousands into that bike. Basically, I was trying to turn it into a SG. My local Harley Shop mechanic pulled me on the side and told me straight out that, although they'll do any modifications I want (and accept my cash), I'm throwing money away. If I want a Harley, just bite the bullet and get a Harley. Stop trying to make a metric a Harley. I was a bit offended at first but now that I own a Harley, I get it. Yeah, maybe it's the Whiskey but I so get it now. I keep running to my garage to peek at my baby. I took her for a short ride today and couldn't keep the smile off of my silly face.
Having owned 35 Harleys and a few others....I still get that silly grin....it never stops!
I think a new HD should come with a sack of lemons to help with that grin...umm maybe not...
Bought my first in Sept 2011. I didn't reject it as I rode my Honda, but as soon as I got my Harley just like others have said already I GOT IT. And I'm pretty sure I'll never go back. I will never knock another ride though. There are great bikes among all the other manufacturers. But I get it now. I've always wanted it, and now I have it. Funny I've read a few of you running down to peek at it. I swear to god I just did that earlier tonight!! LOL!! It's about 3 am now and as I was turning things off downstairs to come up, I went past the garage door, stopped, opened it, turned on the light and just HAD to go in and look at it. And just like the OP said, I also said to myself "I can't believe this thing is sittin in my garage and it's mine." What a coincidence this thread is and what a feeling!! LOVE my HD!!
Just bought my first down in Daytona at bike week. I love it! Just got out of the crotch rocket game, and I've owned a 2005 Yamaha Roadstar Midnight Warrior, it doesn't even compare! I'm new to the Harley game but I see many a rides on my 08 Ultra. Well said brother!
