I used to get my bike hitches from the "Hitch Doc" and I may have bought one from Kuryakyn.
Its important to shop around these days as there are so many suppliers and different types of hitches.

Make sure the trailer tongue has a "swivel" coupler.
This prevents damage to you bike and trailer in the event you drop or lay your bike down.

Before you tow, be sure you know (and check) how sharp of a turn you can make without the trailer tongue makes contact with you bags or any part of your bike or the hitch.
Also when check this, make sure your safety chains are the proper length.

I've owned trailers for nearly twenty years and I've never had a bad incident (knock on wood) so far.

Keep good tires on the trailer and be sure to check the bearings regularly and keep the, well greased. If the trailer doesn't have "buddy bearings" they would be a good investment.

A cargo trailer is a must for two-up riding on a long trip.

Default trailer hitch

I bought one from MCHITCH. It will be here tomorrow. I spent yesterday beefing up the rear end. I bought new saddlebag support brackets from Eastern Performance. They are 15% heavier and the flange on the ends of the brackets look much more durable. I have 2/1 exhaust and the stock R side bracket broke several times. I took off the entire bumber assembly, cleaned and put on new stainless steel bolts as well. I will be pulling a Hot Dog cart, about 400 lbs so am looking forward to getting the hitch tomorrow and seeing how it all comes together. I have never pulled a trailer before and the advice on this forum from those who have has been helpful. I have monster size custom bags on the 08 street glide now, so am wondering how wide of a turning radius I will have. Am thinking about picking up the swivel hitch as well but from all the research I have done it is not a must so will see how it rolls without it but am leaning towards picking one up done the line. Let me know how it all works for you.
take care.

Swivel hitch is not a must. I have had both, went back to just a straight hitch no swivel. Keep in mind that with the added weight stopping time will be affected as will starting from a dead stop.

I got mine from USA Trailers but instead of the swivel hitch on the trailer I got the ball from USA also( can't remember what it's called) it swings back and forth from side to side so when cornering the trailer stays flat. I really like it.

the swivel hitch is not a must but much better IMO , have had them on my trailers , a saftey thing mostly , keep in mind if you have a warrenty if will void it to put on a hitch . according to my dealer that is about the biggest no no and he will hide what he can

Do you need a swivel hitch? No, if you never drop your bike.

I had a 'hidden' Bushtec on my 2010 UC and have transferred it to my '13. Nothing is hidden except the receiver hook up as the rest of it will set outside of your fenders. If I had it all to do over again I would go with the Liberty hitch from the USA Trailer store and do the chrome one, then you at least have accented stuff showing, plus the fact it is 2/3rds the money!!
