Default In One More Year

In one more year my bike will be paid off, and I'm having thoughts of a newer bike. Before I'll allow my self to test ride a new bat wing fairing bike
I have to know some things from people that already know.
(1) Those that have had an older frame with a good quality stablizer that
traded for a new frame how much differance is there realy?
(2) Why is throttle by wire better than cables?
(3) This question is for the wives and girlfriends that actualy know, are the new bikes more or less or the same in comfort for the passanger?
(4) Last question, will just the differances alone be worth the money I'll loose
in trade in value?
Maby I should just see about buying an after market fairing for a road king custom

My 2012 FLHX will be my last bike until I am so old that I need a trike! LOL Im making double payments to pay her off fast! If I did not put 10K into her she would be paid for now! Im good for a long time!

Why wait another year until you trade? Your bike is going to be worth a lot less in a year than it is now. All you have to do to get the new frame is upgrade to an 09. I hate fairings, they are like a sail in the wind. Stock seats suck, a Sundowner is good for both driver and passenger.

Immediate benefit with TBW is the cruise control. It works incredibly well on my bike compared to the old fashioned friction type devices. I know some people don't like cruise control, but I do on long rides

My old King felt a lot lighter due to the the new 180 rear tire and with a stabilizer link it handled perfect. The new 103 is great and far better than smaller engines.
TBW is smoother as well but by old throttle cruise control worked just fine.
All in all the only thing I miss is the handling of the pre08 bikes they just seam sportier than the new ones

I had a road king that I loved, but after riding buddies bat wing glide, I knew that's what I wanted, so I debated to get a new street glide or spend the money and transform the road king that was about a year from being paid off! well as mentioned above, I realized my road king was only going o keep going down in value, so i traded my king in for a new 2011 street glide. absolutely love it. well worth the extra few years of payments. cant imagine being on a larger bike with out the bat wing! good luck to ya and post pics of the new one if you go that route!

(5) Test the batwing at highway speeds, experience the buffeting that you've been reading batwing riders complain about the whole time you've been on the forum, then buy a new Road King. Or, save yourself the trouble, just search "buffeting" read a few threads about the problems with batwings and remind yourself that you love your King and upgrade it to a new King.

Keeping the bike you have now with no payments sounds a whole lot better than one with payments. You can add a removable fairing and have the best of both worlds for about maybe 4 bike payments. I think cable throttle is much more responsive than TBW, you have a beautiful bike (love the colors), I'd keep it.

I'm a Road King fan myself, but I had a Street Glide and an Electra Glide Classic. All the flap about wind buffeting comes from Street Glides and the short windshield (same goes for RG Customs). I had no issues with a stock windshield on the EGC. It's when you put on the shorty, cool lookin' windshields that wind buffeting takes place. H-D didn't make the batwing windshield 12'' high for nothin' - that's just what it takes to be protected.

If you've got the bug for a new motorcycle and got the money for payments, my opinion is to start hunting!!

Remember, if you keep your bike a tad longer, it starts to increase in value! So your grandkids will get double what you paid for it when they trade up! LOL

(2) Cruise control, way better. IMO more responsive.
(3) Wife says cant tell difference, but upgrade seat, Sundowner is good as stated earlier.
(4) personal question, did you feel you got the riding and enjoyment out of it equal or better than the hit or loss you may take?

The bikes I have now I won't even consider trading, selling, etc for at least 10 years. Last bike I owned was for 10 years as well.

If you like your bike, what about an aftermarket fairing/batwing? Better suspension? Motor tweaks? Have you weighed those options? Don't fall for the "better hurry and sell yours it is losing value" bs. It lost its value the day you drove it off the lot.
