I tried like hell to remove the baffles from my screamin eagle slip ons (harflt1584) and cant get the bastards out..ive never seen a baffle like it..it appears to be really fkin long..any ideas guys
Yes remove each slipon and spray penetrating oil between the baffle and the pipe. Next place a 2x4 on the garage floor and tap the pipe in a downward motion and gravity will make the baffle drop out one tap at a time. If you put it back together coat the outside of the baffle with anti-sieze lubricant the slide it back in.
I've used a cut down 2x4 on the inlet side smaller then the inlet, larger then the baffle and banged the muffler down on the board against the floor to push baffles out before. Works pretty well on stubborn baffles, make sure when it breaks loose not to bang the muffler into the ground.
there seems to be a lot of variations in product for the same part number. my SE slip on's are often refered to a simple process ......remove 3 screws....flip and tap...and out they come....NOT....mike have rivits and I have to use the circle bit cut out method which requires welding to put back in.
I have slash cuts so not to sure that method will work very well
Ive done it with a slash cut also, your only using the 2x4 as an impact pad. Once the penetration effect of the spray lube has reached its efficacy, your going to tap it lightly enough to get the baffle to drop out slightly. Once it starts to move you only need enough to grab it and wiggle it out of there.
When I say tap it, I mean you going to hold the pipe with both hands and with one motion slam the pipe onto the 2x4 sitting on the floor just enough to cause a downward motion to get the rust holding the baffle to release its hold. Dont miss the 2x4 or your going to put a dent on the slash cut edge. Am I making any sense and can you visualize what Im suggesting?
