Amsoil Users
I have been using Walmart Supertech synthetic every other oil change. I would be hard pressed to prove there was any appreciable difference in any oil. If the specs are the same, then all you are paying for is the advertising to tell you "this is what so and so recommends".
The popular old saying that "You get what you pay for" was coined by some advertising executive who sold a premium priced product. In reality, it was just another pant load of advertising lingo. If Smurph urine had the same specs as Amsol or any other premium branded oil, and sold for 1/3 the price how many would use it? If instead, Smurf urine sold for the same price as Amsol, most would think it is just as good. We can no longer equate price with quality in most cases, without comparing the specifications.
Pile on dudes!

Yup another oil thread.....been running Amsoil for over 11 years on the RK with 80K on it. Did a complete upper end replace @ 50K (long story) and SS 510 gear driven cams. The parts that I pulled out of the bike had very little wear and the stock cams were in surprisingly good condition. This sold me on the oil. I run it in both bikes now and the one thing you will find is that it does quiet the motor clatter a bit. Everyone has their opinion on what oil is the best, but this has always worked great for me.
If I can't find it at any local auto store when I'm 1000 miles from home I won't use that oil. Mobil 1 is sold in most stores that carry oil, even Walmart, and those stores are on every corner almost. If Amsoil was that good it would be sold everywhere instead of on the "secret network" of "dealers". Just Amsoils way of price gouging by offering a "special" oil at a highly inflated price.
I've used for several years now and I have no problem with it whatsoever. I tried Mobil1 and it's a decent oil and it was quieter than Syn3 in my bike's, engine, tranny etc. Then I put in Amsoil and the shifting in the tranny is awesome and quiet. I have converted several of my riding buddies over to Amsoil, all they have to do is try it 1 time and there sold.
I went from Harley synth to Amsoil at the 5000 change and the bike run quieter and does not get as hot ,,, so it feels. When changing it isnt just the 20-50 in each hole. Primary is 20-50 and each other are either a full 90 or something else... My dealer now sells the oil and I am very happy with the results. I run it in my truck since 1995 and now have 255k on it with not one day of motor problems from oil.
I have been using Mobil 1 for quite a while now, switched from Syn 3. I just tried using Spectro Platinum 75w-140 in the trans, supposed to smooth it out. It hasn't helped much if at all. I would try Amsoil if it were easier to get.
Here is something you never see discussed on this forum. I don't think most owners really read their owner's manual to see what the manufacture calls for in engine lubrication.
My manual says to use a SAE 10W40 below 40 degrees F.
It says to use a SAE 20W50 above 40 degrees F. (Between 40-60 degrees).
It says to use a SAE 50 weight above 60 degrees F. (Between 60-80 degrees).
It says to use a SAE 60 weight above 80 degrees F. (Anything above 80 degrees).
Notice that the manual does not get specific as to brands or type of oil (dino or synthetic). So either will work.
It also says you can run a multi weight diesel oil in your Harley engine.
I know from personal experience that running 20W50 synthetic in 90-100 degree weather will make my engine run noisy as hell. Running a straight 60 weight will quiet it down very nicely.
