Default Cams... Is it worth me doing?

I have an 09 Streetglide with a stock motor. I have Fuel Moto slip-ons, screaming eagle heavy breather, and a programer done by Fuel Moto.

I would like to do the 107 build, but the funds don't allow this to happen right now. I was looking at just throwing a Fuel Moto cam at the bike this year.

If I did cams only and kept the stock headpipe, would I notoice much of a difference? Do I NEED to change the head pipe also? Keep in mind that the 09's don't have a converter.

You'll need a few other parts to install along with the cams. Needle bearing, push rods, and maybe a SE clutch spring to handle the extra Torque. You'll definately feel the difference in the seat.

You will need mild cams, adjustable push rods, new cam bearings (and tools to r&r them) new lifters (chevy ones),all gaskets and seals, a good set of hand tools, a shop manual and watch the video on youtube about changing cams(about 57 minutes), good mechanical abilities and away you go.

Probably about a 10lb tq boost and 10hp boost with the right cams and tune. You say you have a FM programer, not sure which one you have. Your best bet would be to direct this question to Fuel Moto, they're full of good info.

My personal opinion.

You would fair better with headwork, piston and cam
Vs the 107 build. As far as value goes.

There is a lot of power to be had with flow, compression and fuel/timing than what you think.

I wouldn't do a cam without some headwork.

Last fall I did a 107" & cams on my 2009 RG. Love it. The cams I used were T-man 555tq and they really put out great torque in the lower RPM range. I dyno'd at 95 HP & 118 TQ. I think the HP was light and I'm going to run it again this summer with a new tune and see if it improves. No head work at all and 9.8.1 compression.

You may find (like myself) that cams are enough upgrade to satisfy your need for speed. I just can't make myself break down a perfectly good engine in the name of more power. (mines an 06 and had the troublesome chain tensioners) so I had a good excuse for cams.....

I guess the problem I have is after I did the breather, tuner, and slip-ons, I didn't notice much change.

I talked to Jamie 2 years ago about cams and for around $700 (cams, install kit, & pushrods) I could get the cams. I think it was about another $300 to have it installed.

I could cough up another $300 (total equaling $1300) for the 107 kit. Another $700 to have that installed. Trying to get the most bang for the buck.

And then, if I have to get a different head pipe, that would run me another 5 bills!

Of course I 'm trying to keep the price down because I have yet to find "the money tree" in the back yard yet.

Since I live about 15 minutes away from Fuel Moto, I could run down there and see what Jamie suggests, I was just looking for some personal opinion's.

I don't see $700 in a cam kit for an '09.
FWIW, I did cams last year and the big bore kit this year. Heads will be done next winter. I heard all about doing all at once, too, but like you I don't have a money tree either. I also am not willing to try to save til I have enough $$ to do it all at once, cuz if I try to, something will come up and that $$ will get used for that instead. You'll definitely feel a set of cams. And do it yourself it isn't that difficult.

Your right on the price, not $700, my mistake. Oops! I thought I saw on their site $390 for cams, $50 for the gasket kit, and $140 for the pushrods. Total is $580!

Did you get a different headpipe last year or are you running your stock pipe?
