I broke the aux. toggle switch on my Road King. Dealer wanted $42 plus tax. I found the EXACT switch at Grainger....$4.95. Incredible.

I suppose one should be careful about the bolts Home Depot and Lowes carries as far as quality. Lots of counterfeit bolts around and with the quantities they get, you might be better off at Ace. JMHO.

Been hangin' 'round bikes for nearly 50 years. Got a few storage bins in the shop. Some labeled "chrome stock", others labeled "stock", or just "chrome". Usually a nut or bolt in one of them that will replace what needs replacin'........

Yeah i know what ya mean. Had the bike up on the jack changin all the fluids to try and make it clear to the weather that it should get warm now. While it was up i happened to notice that it looked like my front motor moutnt was loose. It wasn't, it's shot. I figure a couple rubber pieces, what amounts to a couple big steel washers pretty much... should be cheap enough. Called the dealer. 73 bucks and change, plus tax. Jeesus.

I know what you mean, I purchased a set of highway pegs, and billet peg mounts. After getting home I found that neither the pegs or mounts included the chrome nuts and bolts that connect the pegs to the mounts. Pretty crazy, so I rode all the way back and found that the 2 nuts and bolts were in a separate package and costs an additional $11.50
Normally HD part prices dont bother me that much, but to package this as 3 separate items and $11.50 for the nuts and bolts really pissed me off. Ace Hardware ended up getting my business for about $2

It seems like it's the little **** stuff thats way over priced. But then again many would say the whole bike is overpriced.

I feel for the Canadians as they have to pay through the nose to have an HD.

The HD hardware prices need to cover a carrying cost. How many does the dealer carry before he sells one? He may have to buy a box of 50. He may have that box for years and years.

The longer something is carried the bigger the mark up. That is why supermarkets have among the lowest markup as they turn product over multiple times a day.

The education system in this country does almost nothing to teach students the ins and outs of business and how they function. That's why you get the ignorant rants about corporations on this forum.

Justice would be to have the haters to start a business and then see what decisions they would make.

On average the parts that I purchased from the Honda dealer, Kawasaki dealer, Suzuki and Yamaha dealer were more than the comparable part for a HD. Example" TPS for a Rune = $795 and for a HD $79.95. Go buy an acorn chrome nut from the metric dealers and compare. By the way even the $4.95 acorn nut can be had from many dealers for 20% less. You just need to be an educated buyer also.
