Took advice from a local stereo professional and installed extra large foam mouse pads from office depot. They are 13.3" x 13.3" and 1/4" thick. They helped a lot with my 6X9 speakers in my Reckless fairing.
J&M also sells a foam pre-cut pad kit for the HD OEM fairings.
I just didn't want to have to deal with having a wad of polyfil packed in the fairing with no way to secure it. The polyfil may work better, I don't know, but I can say the foam made a big difference in my system.
When I took my fairing off to add an amp, I was surprised to find that the previous owner had already installed the J&M pads. I also added the poly fill wrapped around the speakers anyway. Now remember, I was adding an amp also, but I can say the system really rocks now and I do get lots of bass, despite what some people say isn't possible...
