time to paint ?
well after about 3 years of storage due to a lingering divorce i picked my bike up from a friend whos been keeping it out of the situation , ok i got her home went for a ride and washed her before putting her in the garage and i noticed a dent on front and a dent on the rear fender, i realize im probably the only one who knows theyre there but im feeling the need to repair them and leaning towards pulling the panels and doing a color change.. so the question is how many have done it and how hard is it? im currently pewter denim and want to go gloss black.. any ideas would be appreciated.
Well the hardest panel to pull is the rear fender unless your going to do the inner fairing also, all the others are easy enough. There is a tutorial around here on the inner fairing removal, just do a search.
While you have it apart getting it painted get your gauges modded for a custom look.
I have a dent in my Tank and I am going to find one of those guys that do dent removal from hail storms, I believe they use some kind of suction cup tool to pull it out

Just my thoughts, but I don't like to spend money and invest time and work for stock. I had to replace a whole tail light assembly on my Heritage, and I didn't wanna buy stock. I thought, whatnot buy a tombstone or beehive light....
So, if I was gonna pull tins and paint, I'd go custom. Maybe not radical, but something other than a stock color. But, that's me. If you like black - go black. I personally like two tone black. Black and orange, yellow, blue, white, etc....

If you are interested in painting it Harley Vivid Black, I have an UnOpened quart of Harley Vivid Black, 1 quart of Harley Clear, and 1 quart of Harley activator that I bought for $225.82 and will sell for $100.00 plus $20.00 for shipping if your interested.
im still not 100% on the black, im just eaten up buy the dents and i need a shine on her other than the chrome, i have considered black and orange . the orange i would probably get a heavy metallic house of color, but im posititve im not getting a high dollar paintset from harley, but ill keep that quart of black in mind. thanks
1. Took all the tins off my EG with the SG fender tail light turn signals a couple of years ago. Very simple to do; just tedious.
2. I went with HOK candy apple red with the Sunglo mid-coat HD has been using for the last few years from PPG--turned out great.
3. However, if I did this again, I'd find an existing automotive color that I liked a d go with that--the number and variety of colors is astounding and I'm sure you can find plenty you'd like. The reason I'd do this rather than a custom mix is repairing damage in the future, changing a stock front fender to an aftermarket, etc. Much easier to use an existing automotive color with a known mix formula than trying to match a custom mix.
Good luck with your project.

PS--there is a series of threads I posted describing my project if you want to see pics and descriptions. Also, the factory service manual was my Bible for the project. I'm not a tech and it was a simple project in terms of mechanical skills not being required, and the tools needed are nothing special.

After having a color that seems to always look clean I think you may be unhappy with the vivid black. It always shows even the smallest bit of dust.
I am in the middle of adding GM Synergy Green to my vivid black on my Street Glide. It is a time consuming job. To paint all your body panels will cost quite a bit if having it done by someone else.
I agree with previous post about going custom. If you're considering painting then go for custom parts

Nobody will be able to pull anything out of your tank with a suction cup, even glue pulling will likely fail.
