I don't belong to that...let my free one run out...seems like a club to keep you on the financial hook...We have our own fun group and it's free. Most of us have a towing policy, but we mainly rely on each other. A couple of us have trailers and most of us have pickups. Someone breaks down, they make some calls and the rescue squad shows up with BEER! We have done it a couple of times for friends/no brainer. Plus you can harass your buddy who's bike broke down, good fun in itself! Like a private mutual aid motorcycle society.
You chaps should also be aware that as there are no Harley dealers in some European countries, HOG assist doesn't operate in them!
I recall reading other HOG related posts in which some HDF members profitted by using other services, such as cell phone? Just sayin - look into all the 'benefits' and think yourselves lucky you get so many.
Just a thought. Pay for towing when you need it. I have driven/ridden for 20 years and called a tow truck once. I have save big $$$ by just taking care of stuff myself when it comes up. Guess everyone is different, but they must be making money off of ya or they would not be selling the service.

With 4 phones and a data plan, the HOG discount saves me a good chunk of change each month. More than makes up my membership fee every couple months.
I canceled my HOG membership since I have not used it in four years. I now use my AAA Southern California membership and have added my motorcycle\ RV for towing. Cheaper and has more benefits for less cost.

Doesn't anyone use HOG for more than towing? Heck my HOG group is a great bunch of guys and has some good rides planned too. At least three times a month. Get enough points from the meetings to get a $75 gift cert to the dealer for just showing up. That alone pays the membership. 25% off on your birthday is not a bad deal either. Then I have AAA for the towing too.
When did they start doing 25% off on your birthday?
Not an option for me, AAA Southern New England will not tow bikes or RV's. I have towing through another roadside assistance, but also have it through HOG as well. But for me, just the discount I get on my AT&T cell phone bill from being a HOG member pays for the membership 5 times over every year.
I'm a Life Member of H.O.G. (No Annual Dues). I use the AT&T 17% discount. It is like free money.
I have never used the H.O.G. Tow Service. I have AAA Premier with RV/Motorcycle. Premier has a dedicated phone number. I have a real person within the first minute. Premier includes three tows per year. Two 100 miles tows and one 200 mile tow per year. Plus the "Unlock" Service includes coming to my home to unlock the house.
i have unlimited towing thru AARP foremost insurance...added a few dollars to the annual premium. never paid much attention until last april, when my voltage regulator crapped out on my '12 e.g.. i was out in big bend and 250 miles from the nearest dealer on a saturday night. called the insurance company and they handled everything. that is such desolate country-the tow truck had to come from 150 miles away.
that tow would have cost me $1,500 had i not had insurance. also had trip interruption insurance and they paid for a rental car to get back home and wait for dealer to get parts and repair the bike.
do not think that HOG basic is all you need. make sure you have lots of towing insurance, at $5 per mile...you can spend a lot of money in a hurry.
