Default striker stopped by work

yesterday I spoke to the "tank polisher at york hd" short pleasent conversation considering he just lost his health coverage and his wife is going into labor. He has a strong feeling that strike will end soon. Also told me that bikes that leave the country have all kinds of crap and ristrictions on them ,and run worse, hotter then U.S. sold bikes(interesting?). He also told me to give him my vin and he can tell me all sorts of interesting stores/print-outs about my bike(interesting?). Told me the birth date and other info you get is only for frame...ect. vvvveeeryy interesting humm

Cool! I want to give him my VIN and learn stuff about my bike.....I think....[sm=confused06.gif]Then again, sometimes ignorance is bliss. And that my friends is why there ought to be a lot more happy people in the world! j\k

Question. How do you build two exact same engines and make one run hotter unless they deliberately put incorrect parts in? Hmmmmmm?

A VIN will always give the owner when the bike was first put into service and the warranty exp date (2 years after being sold) - it's also useful for looking at any recalls related to safety or performance (like the trunk lid light that needs replacement on certain tourpaks). Other than that, there isn't any mysterious info out there (to my knowledge).

No 2 engines are exactly the same - tolerances can add up which can make an engine tighter (or less tight) causing more internal friction and producing a hotter running engine. That's why SERTs or Power Commanders are so useful - they help to customize the air/fuel map to get the best performance from a given engine. Two engines which have had the exact same modifications will not make the same HP and torque either - a situation that often leads to a customer becoming quite upset when there's little the shop can do (I want that last 2 hp [:@]).

I may be way off here, but couldn't different epa (or other)type requirements also cause extra heat? Voodoo did say "have all kinds of crap and ristrictions on them" which could mean just that kind of effect.

The European Union has a lot more stringent emissions standards than we do, or so I understand. This could lead to a different map/injectors/intake/exhaust, etc. being used in bikes built for export. I bet that is where the hotter running engine comes from.
As far as the VIN being used to track production. It is used for more than just the frame. It is used to track what shift, etc. the bike was built on, etc. This can make a difference. There are studies which have shown that quality differs in several ways: from day shift to nights, Monday morning and Friday afternoon. When they build a vehicle/bike, an assembly sheet is started on the bike, with the VIN as a reference. Every piece of equipment or process is documented on that sheet.

It's my understanding that those who dyno new stock HDbikes see approx a 10% spread in HP/TQ from same type bike to bike due to the spread of mass production tolerances all stackingforor against it. You can bet that when HD gives you their stage I, II etc HP/TQ graphs in theirScreaming Eagle catalog, that they don't pick the worst dog for their test mule. This is why the lowlydyno tuner has trouble getting such numbers in their shops.
