I just got my RAM mount kit in the mail today and I have a question for you all.
I got the brake/clutch mount type. It looks like to install it on our bikes we will need to keep the stock cap. But when I do the bolts aren't long enough to use the spacers they provided.
Is this how it should be (not using the spacers)? Anyone have any insight on this?
It should mount over the stock parts. If your bolts arent long enough contact RAM as they may have the wrong bolts in that kit....OR you could just go to the local hardware store and get some stainless bolts that are longer.
I just mounted mine with the bolts and spacers provided in the kit. I have the mount that has the ball on the top and one that sticks out the front. I also put a little black electrical tape on the back side of the mount just in case it came into contact with anything.
So, I called RAM mounts and told them what was going on. Unfortunately they didn't help me out too much and the guy checked and I got the right sizes for the kit.
So what I did was went to Home Depot and found some 2 1/2 inch bolts and tried them out and they worked like a charm. I'm not sure why my kit didn't fit right (I used the recommended mount kit off the website for my bike). Maybe the 2013 caps are larger? But I highly doubt that.
