Default Traded in my Bones for something more comfortable

Hey guys. Never posted or really looked into the touring section before. I had a 09 Crossbones that I bobbed out and put a jockey shift on. Loved the bike and she had some nice power but I got tired of the uncomfortable ride and the price of the (then new) bike was killing my wallet since I hardly rode her.

Well that all changed today. A few weeks ago I shipped out the bones and not too long I got the itch. I started looking at some smaller and older rides. I hit on a few Road Kings and started taking some test rides. Found a 06 Police RK at a dealership and got a loan out for it only to hear they sold it. So I road a couple and ran into 2 pretty beat up 06 Police RKs and a black pearl 06 RK at a dealership who wanted $13k for it. Tried to talk them down to $11k for the bike and to swap my tags but they wouldn't go for it right then. Ended up getting a call about this 04 luxury teal RK with Vance and Hines true duals, stage 1 kit and some other mods. The guy rode up on it and it was immaculate. I loved the sound (it's a tad loud I do like to have my bikes a tad quiet so I can pull the bike in and not wake the neighborhood) and the chrome was perfect.

Anyways long story short (not really) I went and had the bank cancel the last loan and get me another for this 04 RK with only 19.5k miles. Nabbed her for only $9.5k. The bike definitely has power. My Bones had an intake, tune and exhaust and this thing picks up like it did. Needs a new set of tires and I might wrap the baffles with fiberglass to tone it down but damn it's a nice ride.

Sorry I only have one picture. My phone is acting up and wont send them to my computer. I'll have to get some more pictures and videos up later this week.

Anyways anything I should look out for? The bike runs like a champ and has the sissy bar and passenger floorboards. I have to check out the security system. It has the FOBs but I think the batteries are dead. It's a little different than my what I had on the Bones as well. I'm going to change the oil, get new tires and probably change the shift linkage.

Oh also one of the bags wont lock. Key spins 360 degrees. Might just have to tighten it up a little.

Your gonna love it. Besides the usual stuff, bars and seat (both terribly uncomfy), you'll be so fuggin happy you made the move up to a King! Congrats and enjoy! Let the mods begin!

Welcome to the world of touring. Your saga somewhat parallels mine, I chose the bike in my sig. Beware, the mods is a disease that cannot be fixed. Mine has been on a perpetual metamorphosis and is not yet tapped out.
You, as I, are at the point the cam chain tensioners need a look.

Nice. I like the color. Road king FTW!!!

Bars, seat, check cam tensioners, ditch the white walls, usual maintenance, floor board extensions and most important.... CFR slip ons.

Good luck with the bike

Mike

Nice looking RK. That seat is on of the most comfortable stock seats I have ever had. Give it a try before chucking it out. If you do chuck it my way. Enjoy the ride and pile on the miles.

Congrats and welcome to the touring side. Can't really tell what those pipes are but if they are the Big Shots, you can get the quit baffles for them pretty cheap. Check the tensioners and definitely a new set of bars. Enjoy!!

I am used to my extended and a lot farther forward controls on my Bones. I may just opt to get highway bars for this and leave it at that. I like not scraping on every turn. The Crossbones had a horrible lean angle.

Only had a few minutes on it myself but it's not bad when I'm stopped. Didn't get any craps which is always nice and it's nice to slide back into while riding.

Vance and Hines true duals. The baffles just pull out (hopefully easily) and I'm going to wrap some fiberglass cloth around them and stuff them back in there.

As for the bars I need to get some time on these and see how I like them. I like function over form myself. My Bones looked nice with the mini apes but it really took away from any leverage I had and just got uncomfortable on long rides. I don't like bars that are pulled way back or out too far.

Thinking about getting a 'get back whip' to match the bike. Lot's of idiot drivers in Florida and I got short legs so kicking is hard.

Ignore my hairy eyebrow
