Default Power Commander or HD Download

I'm installing new head pipes, slip-ons and breather on my SG. I was planning on adding the power commander for tuning but the dealer keeps trying to talk me into letting them do a download. The download is about half the cost but what are the pros and cons of each?

go for the power commander, if you make any other changes you can change the map in the PC.

The download will still be lean because its still epa compliant. By using a power commander you can go in and change fuel and timing maps. Take the $100+ and buy a PCV. Fuel Moto will give you a canned map close to what your running and warranty it, but there are others if you ask around.

Your dealer is giving you bad info. You need a fuel mapping device since you are changing headers and heavy breather. A stage 1 download is good for changing ac and slipons basically. Do ac and headers, now you got a different situation. A stage 2 download can work if you keep stock headers, do the SE heavy breather, SE 255 cams and slipons. Otherwise you got a poor running engine.
Find a competent shop that does dyno tuning as well.

I have a SERT on my 2011 SG, and I ran a PCV on my 09 Dyna. I like the SERT but every time you change anything you have to get the bike retuned and dynoed. With the PCV you just download a new map and go to town riding, simple stuff.

For the same price as the (useless, ripoff) download, get a Micro Tuner from Fuel Moto - $199, it takes PC-V maps, and you can get them for free from FM.

Call Fuel Moto ...nice thing about them is you get map support. They have canned maps that will work for just about any bike...I enjoyed dealing with them.
