Thanks guys, for the fast response! With that said, I'm not a gear head...at all...hate to say, so where are the wires at? The cruise works just fine too. I was thinking maybe a short, but fig I'd ask first. Funny how it didn't do it on my few test rides before I brought the beast home though ....

On top of the chrome transmission cover, two wires. Get a HD service manual or a Clymer. Pays for itself on the first use.
This may not be of any help, but I have a 2011 Road King.
The neutral switch is on top of the trans, as was mentioned before.
It's right by the starter
Anyway, there are two wires. On mine, they are tan and black.
I believe this is a grounding switch, which means you should be able to connect the tan wire to ground, turn on the key switch, and the neutral light should come on.
If it works all the time, then your problem would be the neutral switch.
Hopefully someone a lot smarter than me will pop in and confirm or deny what I .
Went out and checked mine this morning. Noticed I have some very slight corrosion on the insides of the wire connections. It's not enough to stop the light from working, but maybe you have more corrosion on yours
