New rider. Trying to figure out which drain plug is for the engine oil. I know-sounds stupid. eh??? Dealers want $69-$91 for regular oil & filter change. NOT. Willing try it myself until I looked and saw 3 plugs. 2010 Ultra Classic. Thanks

Not sure abouty a 2010 but on my 07... the oil plug is on the primary side of the bike & faces forward ... where the trans plug is on the exhaust side of the bike & faces downward.

If you plan on doing your own services, a good investment is a Service Manual.
It will save you money in the long run

You have manual I'm pretty sure engine oil is the center plug.

Looking from the left side of the bike, at the primary cover...

The plug closest to you will be the oil drain plug. The center plug is not used, well it is, but for other things. Then from the right side of the bike, the plug that is positioned vertically is the transmission plug. You can go to this site, and put year/model in and then select 'Transmission Housing, Top Cover, and Oil Pan to see the three plugs...

17, there are two, are the correct oil plugs. Vertical one is transmission drain plug, horizontal one is engine oil pan. 16 is the one you don't need for changing oils...

Damn, y'all got in there while I was tryin to splain it...

In 2kids3pet's pic, the mag plug is the one you use for engine oil drain. The tranny is marked correctly. That center one, marked 'crank', is the one I said is used for other things. You'll get to that later on, maybe...

2kids3pets...

Wondering why you marked that one as 'Primary 1 0f 2' ? Isn't that the crank case plug, used mostly for checking dry sump conditions? It is certainly not for the primary case...

Just do them both. That's what I do. I use harley syn in both cases so you only have to buy one type of oil. The primary is left side middle, outer bottom edge of case. Easy to do, just remember to wipe the drips from under the front where the filter is.
