Default Support for lower back

My wife loves riding on the 12 EG we have. She has lower back issues and in looking at the bike, I came up with an idea to give her some more lower back support. Does anyone know how hard it is to add padding to the pad that is below the passenger backrest? I thought I would ask before I go tearing into it and waste valuable riding time.

May want to do some research on the newest AirHawk neoprene seat pad with the cut out on the back edge to allow the lower back not to compress while riding. My wife and I both use the Air Hawk cushions and have found nothing better for eliminating skin stretch and/or lower back issues. Their triangle shaped cushion fits perfect on the front or rear of the E/Glide seat.

I had a similar issue with my Tour Pak on a solo rack. I added a pad from a sissy bar for lower back support:

I was going to slip in a small blood pressure bladder(cuff) into that padding but have not at the time to try it. Have the hose sticking out some with the shut off visible, pump it up with your passenger on the bike, remove bulb and your good to go. If you go this route get a small throwaway cuff from the hospital (pocket it when the nurse leaves the room, LOL). The medium size is too large.

Of course your probably have to have someone sew the padding back up unless you use velcro to secure the end that you have to slit to install the cuff.

Thanks for the ideas. With our budget being what it is and facing a reduction of 20% in income, looking for inexpesive ideas and you all gave me a few. Thanks again.

Has she tried wearing a kidney belt which gives lower back support and encourages one to sit in an erect position. Helps me on long rides.
