6th gear noises
not that it matters, who was first. just becauseXX companyinvented it firstdoesn't mean I stayed with or aheadof the competition. who was first is just for advertising hype. discount the hype and always go with real life experience from truly knowledgeablemechanics and technicians.
foxRM250, had the same problem finding the Mobil1 V, found it in the MC section of Advanced Auto, asked the kid at the counter in the store, he did not know they had a MC section so you might have to look for it, I sumbled on it a few weeks later gettingoil for the cage. Try the Mobil 1 V, they invented synthetic motor oil and it is the ony true triple synthetic oil with the right MC specific additive package from aMAJOR oil company, the rest are just blends of one type or another (except smallerMC spefic oil blending companies, cant speak for their quality one way or the other).
I took the suggestions from the guys here and I reap the benefit, try it.
If this doesn't work for you, get open mufflers and a radio, that'll fix all the unwanted noise you can come up with.
I hope HD gets it fixed. The cost for the baker kit is $1,200 installed. $800.00 if you want to wrench it yourself.

But I still feel the base issue lies with the basic design of the tranny.
Either the angle of cut on the gears is off or the tolerances are too loose.
whine is normally caused by wrong angle of attack of the gears and too close
of tolerance and or preload on case bearings.
But CLUNKING ,CLANGING etc, it something that is too loose.
And no matter how good the oil is, it is NOT going to correct those types
of tolerances and issues
Can't find my machinists book right now it has a lot of this stuff in it.
But here is an online source.

From a theoretical aspect at the factory everything may seem fine until the
gears get a real world work out and finish lapping in after time, then the problem
starts. It's a cut-throat world out there and everybody is in a hurry to bring something
new and better first to the market. But invariably quality suffers in the end.
I went the other day to look and they had 15/50W but I didn't see 20/50. I know the place where I'll go to get the redline will have the 20/50 there. They are an oil distributor. I have to admit that I have never really tried or been a synthetic oil fan, but as hot as these new ones run, I will have to switch over.
