I have a riders claw that I carry my iPhone in. I charge it using my car charger in the cigarette lighter in the fairing. My problem is my radio stations pick up fine until I plug my phone in and then then static overpowers the music. Unplug the phone and its fine again. Took it down to the Harley shop today and showed them what was going on but they couldn't answer what was causing the interference. Anyone else ever have this problem?
Are you using the 2mm jack in the front of the HK for audio and the 30 pin flat connector for the USB charger? Unplug one at a time. Sounds like a ground loop.

I'm not using the jack at all. I'm talking about just listening to the radio through the speakers. It works great until I plug in my 30 pin flat connector to my phone then the static overruns the music. Unplug the connector and its fine again.
You may be creating a rf interference when you plug it in. The first step is to test different equipment in the socket, such as a radar detector. If that does not cause a problem then the socket and factory wiring are not a problem. Next step would be to try a different ipod cord and then a different ipod. By changing just one piece at a time you will eventually find the issue.

The above may be the problem, check those things. Inductance from the power wire may be causing the interference. Move the power wire away from your radio and speaker wires, try to insulate it.
This happens in my cage whenever I have the phone plugged into the cig socket and listening to the radio. It's just plain old interference with the radio. Not much you can do about it. Listen to something other than the radio.
I went and bought a USB plug and plugged it into the cigarette lighter and used my white apple cable to plug into it and into the phone and it took care of the interference. The black car charger I was using was an apple OEM charger so I'm not sure what the issue with it was but I'm back in business now.
