I just had my 5000 mile service done, and added Mobil 1 V twin 20-50 to the engine; keeping HD Formula Plus in the Primary and Transmission.

I use Amsoil all the way around. 20w/50 in the crank, 75w/90 in the Trains, and 10w/40 in the primary. I have a 05 FLHRC-I with almost 30,000 miles on it and the last 20,000 have been with Amsoil. It does shift better with Amsoil. I road it to Sturgis from Picayune Ms. the second day we were on I-90 between Sioux Falls and Sturgis and the temp was 108degees. We had about a 50 mile an hour head wind and it was all we could do to keep the bikes between 70 and 80 mph. We were going through hell and I just knew we would be changing the oil in Sturgis but when we got there the oil was good. I did not change or add any to the bike until we got back. The only issue with Amsoil was that there filters leaked some.

2003 FLHT 27,000 miles

Engine: Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50

Tranny: Mobil 1 75-90 Gear Oil

Primary: Mobil 1 MX-4T 10W-40

Change every 5,000 miles, no problems, and neutral is very easy to find since the switch to 75-90.

Go with ATF - the clutch will love you for it.

Just a thought! but other than copperhead and Preistfan I don't see many authors mentioning how many miles they have on the bike since the changeover. I have 55,000 and use all hd fluids. Not to say there the best but haven't had any real problems.. Would consider changing trany fluid but haven't .

I'm sure HD is a great oil, I went with the Full Syn for heat protection among other reasons. I live in the very southern tip of Texas and heat is an issue. Been riding Air Cooled bikes all my life and used to mess with VWs also. Like I said in a previous post, each rider needs to do their own research and go with what they are comfortable with. There are plenty of stories here on the boards about high mileage bikes that only use HD Dino.

Myself, I use Crisco or Cornola. What ever one is on sale.
