What is considered a normal oil pressure while going down the road and while idling? I have 2013 streetglide with 3000 miles. I'm running mobil one synthetic motorcycle oil in it. I thought I paid attention to the gauges but the other day while waiting on a train I realized I had about 12psi. I thought it ran around 36 all the time. I took off and it only climbed to 32. Called the dealership and he said it was normal and it may read almost zero at idle and as long as the light doesn't come on its ok. Maybe it's always been like that and I don't pay as good attention as I thought.
36 when cold, 32 when hot and 5 to 10 (or so) at idle. I use Redline 20W50. Those are my typical numbers. I believe the oil pump is a high volume pump, not high pressure.
Stick a Baisley Oil Pressure Spring in there.....I started mine the other day after about 3 months and the cold idle PSI was around 60. Stays around 50 when hot and moving, around 35+ when idling hot.

So what benefit does that do for you vs the 32 lbs hot and moving and 5 to 10 lbs idling hot? I've got 126,000 miles on the original 1999 oil pump running those numbers without a single oil issue. So what do you think you're getting from the extra PSI? ( aside from lighter wallet, of course..)

He's losing cooling capability, which is why they run low pressure, high volume.
The faster (higher PSI) you run the oil through it, the less surface time it gets to spend, so it leaves heat on the table (or in the metal...).
Curious to see where this topic goes? I've been told to get a pressure gauge on my bike to make sure I'm getting enough oil pressure. My comment has been thus far is........ "Why...Should I be worried?"
