Rented an 07 Street Glide today...close to purchase and REALLY like the looks of the SG...rented an 06 last year, hated the fairing and knew a bigger windshield was in order. I bought a 8" clearviewwith recurve and put it on the rental. All I can say is I did not like it! Maybe some people get used to the wind coming up the front of them, rattling thier teeth, but I think I like it head on.
On a better note...really impressed with the 6 speed and bigger engine, constantly found myself doing 80+ mph! Really nice to be in 5th about 60 and nail it....get to 85 and shift into 6th, bike ran like it loved it!
I will rent a Roadking Classic next weekend..this one feels like it "fits" me sitting on it at the dealers, so I will give it a shot. Without the windshield of course!
Oh yeah, windshield tip...when removing the clearview, it was kinda hung in the middle, so I rocked it a little back and forth onthe ends and the d**n thing split right in half...shizznit!
I don't know what you are talking about with the wind coming 'up'. I have over 7k miles on mine and haven't noticed it. Even rode it in 31 degrees. Maybe it's because I was use to riding my dyna before with no windshield that this feels so much better.
I'll take the 8" clearview since the bikes to Windy for you. How much you want for it.. Hey thanks for the info, that was very informative. When do we get to here strike 3, I'm not even on strike 1, no wind to complain about here if going far away I just put on a taller shield.
Here's my thoughts on the wind problem....It's not the wind coming over the fairing, it's what is coming from under it. When I bought my SG last May I also had a 9' shield installed because I knew the 4" shield would be too low. When I rode it still noticed a lot of wind hitting me in the face. I felt around and noticed it coming from under the fairing. I imediately turned around a went back to the dealer and purchased a set of fairing air deflectors for like $30: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US
I put them on right there, rode home and the buffeting was gone . I couldn't belive the BIG difference they made.
I was told the lower air baffle heat the engine more. I do not see this to be true. It directs it towards the engine. Is this true or not? Because I order one today.
