My works a ranch out there some times in Dubois, so I ride out there from Ga. make sure you are prepared for VERY cold weather. I've been there in August and rode in 4-5 inches of snow, the rockies are beautiful. Take your time, when riding at night watch for all kind of wildlife (moose, deer, elk, buffalo, bear, wolfs) you name it will run across the road. The buffalo get to be a pain in the butt because they will stand in the middle of the road for hours and back traffic op for miles.

I love it out there, the wide open space is wonderful. The best things is the small towns away from Yellowstone, I ran across one town that had a population of four (4). But it had a post office. I love to stop at the mom and pop motels and cafe's. We ride two lane roads all the way from St. Louis to Wyoming. We ride from Ga to St. Louis on I-75 and get off and take two lane across to Bear Tooth Pass Montana then down into Yellowstone, then over to where my son works in Dubois.

I hope you have as much fun on your trip as I've had on mine. Good Luck.

Good place to stay in Jackson is the Antlers Motel. Be sure to stop at "The Top of the World Store" at the peak of the Beartooth Highway. Get yourself a patch and a T-shirt. Cooke City has some nice eateries, like the Beartooth Cafe. Have a Moose Drool Ale!
Everyone has told you about the fickle weather....they are correct. It rained everyday on us for 13 days during part of each day. We had sideways rain entering Jackson, complete with hail. Wear a helmet.....full-face is most welcome for that experience.

Take your digital camera....it is an awesome, magical place.

Common sight in Yellowstone.

Beartooth Pass on the Red Lodge side:

A good place to eat in Red Lodge is Borgart's Pizza. If you fly fish, take a rod with you ad don't miss the incredible fishing in the area.

Regards,

Bill

It's pretty much in my back yard... Butch's suggestion is pretty much the must-do... like most others have said. Don't forget an extra flash card & batts. for the camera. Put your wristwatch in your pocket and just chill

Mid-August would be warmest. There can be a little snow in June, but pretty comfortable for the most part. July to mid_August there are lotsa touristas on the Park roads. The end of August & into October are pretty sweet but it gets progressively cooler. Just bring clothing you can layer and you'll be good.
