Definetly get cruise and abs. 2010 was the year for single exhaust. My stock 96 with stage one runs good enough. If I wanted tons of power I would have kept 954rr lol. Good luck with your purchase.
Based on your response above - I'd look for an 09 with ABS. The upgraded frame and brembo ABS brakes are worth it. You can always build the motor into what you want as time goes by.
I have an '07 and a '12. The '07 is a nice bike, with all the upgrades she is very respectable. However... the '12 just slaughters it. The 103 with a stage one is pretty satisfying as it is. The '12 also seems to have lower gearing, sixth gear is totally usable on the '12 whereas the '07 it's pointless to be in 6th unless you are moving over 75mph. The handling on the '12 seems a little crisper, but I can't really say too much as my '12 has extended bags and I am still feeling out my lean limitations The ABS is pretty sweet as well.
I'd definitely go for the newest you can get with the factory 103 as the base.
I am considering selling the '07 and it makes me sad to see how many great deals there are on '07's and even some 09-11's! You will have no problem finding a nice ride for a good price in this market, that's for sure.
Would love a new ride, but funds wont allow. Looking at 2008-2010. Just happy to be looking.
MILTFLHX---I just bought a new street glide over the winter and here is what I think about buying a new vs. used one. I was kinda in the same boat as you I really wanted to go used and not spend so much money but I really wanted the new frame and one in blue. After looking at a lot of used bikes it came down to all the used ones I looked at were in my opinion not taken care of to my standards and were only a few thousand dollars less than if I bought a new one. I dont know what the used prices are where you are located but where I am it just didnt make sense.
In the end you should do whats right for you and your current situation but take the time to really look at the differences between new and used. Sometime the difference in interest rates alone (new intrest rates are really good right now) will be close to making up the difference.
Used prices here in Michigan I think are on the high side, why I do not know. Seems like some of the southern states have decent prices on used bikes. May have to make a road trip.
Same boat here. Found a loaded used 2012 BBP SG with 2k miles FSBO and have not looked back. Had to drive 4 hrs each way to pick it up. They are out there if you are willing to drive a little!
Yeah, I am SHOCKED at what people are letting go of some nice touring bikes for. I know what I have in my '07 and if I decide to sell her I am going to take quite the bath @ today's prices, especially for pre '09 bikes. You can get a sweet 09-12 with wheels and 103 / abs/ cruise for $17K-$18K... Decked out '07s are going for $16K! I'd almost prefer to give my bike to one of my brothers than to take that kind of beating.
Keep shopping and save the money man. You will be miles ahead if you ever decide to sell it down the road.
