So here is my 2 cents.
The bike you bought if it is the 103 or bigger you have se 255 sams, probably the best you can run for regular driving.
If you are racing then yes you might want to tear it open and replace what you have, but you have a great set up now.
Thing is most people that go this route end up with less hp than more because they go by tuners and dyns that tune for over 4500 rpms, I drive from 2k to 3750 maybe 4k once in a while, so for me in that range I would lose power if I did the changes I was looking at.
If you drive like the most of us and tour or cruise, etc.. you want to have your torque and hp in the curve or range of rpms you typically drive.
If you look at pipes and air and a tuner that is dedicated to your range and spot in the curve thats different but from all the reading ive done and looking around I found that in most cases myself included you can actually lose hp and torque from stock if you buy into all these claims with certain cams, high compression motors, tuners, dynos etc..
I read a great disclaimer yesterday from hackercustomexhaust it made a lot if sense and really openmed my eyes to the obvious.
You need to think about yur riding style, where you want the power and torque, ie at what rpms do you typicaly ride, again read carefully and see that a lot of cams and claims are for over 4k rpms, if thats your driving style then byall means crack her open, deal with the high compression, the hard starts, the expense, the tuning, etc..and take it ut and run it lie you stole it, otherwise if you just want more torque for riding 2 up and loaded for a trip you might not be happy with your choices, read read read, when you think you know it, read some more.

I have a 103 but an 07 so I dont have the 255 it started I think in 09, I forget, anyway, the 255 tuned properly looked liked a good fit for me, but I am going to wait until I tune with my new air and pipes and then decide.

Anyway just my 2 cents, flame on, opinions are everywhere man, there like ******** everyone has one and unless it is your own they tend to stink.
I would be pissed if I put in the time and money and then found that under 4k I was no better off or worse, even less power and torque than when I started and dont think it doesnt happen.

Standard 103's do not have SE255 cams. Only the CVO models do.

Give Jamie at Fuel Moto a call and he can tell you what will work for you. A cam swap is pretty easy if you have the right tools. You can go on Fuel Motos site and look at some of the dyno charts and see what a cam swap can do for a 103.

The dealer tried to push the 204's. I went with he 259's but I did a full stage 4 kit.
Before that with stage 1, just pipes heavy breather and sert (dyno tuned) I had 77 horse and 98 ftlbs of torque. It pulled nicely and left my buddy's 88" stage one (with PCV) in the dust. He just got a 103 and did the same mods as he had on the 88" and got 76 hp and 90ftbs of torque, He's happy with it for now. I'll never ride around at 120+ MPH I'm sure, but I get to 80-90ish quicker. So I agree with previous posters, depends on your wallet and riding style

I had done all kinds of wrenching on my scooters from brakes and cables, clutch cables, primary tensioners, you name it for years. Everything but go into the engine. Well I just recently finished installing a set of 222 cams and installing a Power Vision from Fuel Moto. As long as you understand the theory about how the HD motor works and are mechanically inclined(only you would know that!), you'll be fine. There is a 57 min. video on You Tube that shows the whole process. Watch that 3 or 4 times and it will be clear as a bell. Just make sure that you have a manual (for torque values), a lift, a torque wrench and the tool to remove and install the inner cam bearings. Some say you can do without the cam bearing tool, but $100 is a small price to pay for the piece of mind you have knowing that you have the right tool. The inside of your engine is no place to second guess. Good luck! It's a great feeling telling someone asking about who put your cams in that "I did it!"

Off topic.
My Dealer tried tried the opposite, they said the 259 and i opted for the kit but kept the 204. What dealer did you go to, if you dont mind me asking?

Mufflers, breather and tuner (i.e., Stage 1), and that bike will do 110 MPH all day long.

I just put new cams in my 96. It was no problem at all. When I changed the cam bearings I went to autozone and used the blind bearing puller. It was simpler than I thought. Don't be scared or overwhelmed. Even a caveman can do it.

Thank you guys for your input. I enjoy wrenching on my scoot. Did a handle bar swap the day after I brought it home. I am looking forward to doing some engine work myself. All the advice I have gotten here makes me much more confident working on my own bike.

Thanks and ride safe,
Or like ya stole it..!!!!!

2black, I want sufre, I went to the dealer last week and he started to say my bie already 255's he looked it up and said, no it started in ( i think he said 09) and told me they started running them in the 103's from the factory, was really impressed, but you are saying that isnt the case?
I didnt look into it any further I hoped I could take the word of my local dealers service manager, lol it would be pretty funny if he was wrong even after looking it up.
