oh yeah forgot about this really cool place I found on my way to luckenbach a couple of weekends ago(others may know it already)
It's not far from Luckenbach and it's called Toucan Jims in CenterPoint, TX and is not your typical biker bar hangout during the day but nonetheless it's cool! I think there were 3 bikes out front at this time of the day.
You walk in the place and the whole atmosphere is "tropical" with sand on the floors, you walk out the back and there is a bar there. A few more steps outside is a tropical landscape as far as I could see and a pavillion where apparently during the days it has a pirate theme and belly dancers. After a certain time of the day it turns into a different clientele altogether. I stopped back by on my way back from luckenbach and the belly dancers were gone and a band was setup under the pavillion and about 150+ bikes were out front.

whew! man let me tell you.. on the way up to sturgis last year.. we left from north of houston with the intention of making it to amarillo the first evening. We made it to Childress, TX which is 120-ish miles from Amarillo on the south side. It was 114 and absolutely miserable when we stopped. Drink plenty of fluids man!
That don't sound like fun....not if you're on the bike all day long. The OP is going next week and with decent temps to ride around in.
Don't forget Luckenbach, TX. I gave this book as a gift to someone in TX from Amazon, had some nice rides: The Biker's Guide to Texas: 25 Great Motorcycle Rides in the Lone Star State [Paperback]
