Just from memory:

Vance & Hines Dresser Duals with Rhinehart Slip-ons, Detachable Tour Pak (and the kit that I had to buy to get it to that state), Lowers, Corbin seats w/backrest, chrome inner primary, chrome lower forks, Soos Floorboard extensions, extended shift lever, George Anderson TP relocation, detach backrest mounts, passenger backrest, Ram Mount for GPS, ISO grips, dakota digital hidden antenna, air deflection baffle, dragon wings, chrome shifter linkage, chrome headlight ring, kuryakyn license plate holder, two Fast Aire windshields (shown above w 10").

He's since added locking compartments for the lowers, Kuryakyn Switchblade freeway pegs, a new windshield, new tires, windshield bags.

Bike came stock with ABS & Cruise.

Lots of $ there alone... I think my decision is made. Instead of rebuilding (and re-spending) - perhaps I buy back this one and work on CAM and wheels...

I can understand your quandary. I can't offer any feedback on the earlier models, haven't owned or ridden any. But from what I have read & heard, the changes are significant enough for most folks to likely go with a newer model.
But judging by the pic of your former scoot- it sure seems to be decked out with just about anything you might need or want.
I guess for me another factor would be the sentimental aspect- how attached to your former scoot were you? Kind of like being reunited with a lost family member- you know?
But if you don't have that kind of big love for your old flame- maybe it's time to start off "fresh"- jump into a new relationship!
Good luck in your decision.

IMO it would all come down to price. From blue book values - there is not a lot of difference in 08s and 09s.... Many people deck out there Harleys. If this guy is wanting close to book value, I'd say pass. You can easily find another black SG that has a lot of $$ dumped into it. I see them for sale all the time - and priced under blue book.

If it is a steal, and you want YOUR bike back, buy it back. If it is just an OK deal, or average deal - I'd say pass, and keep your eyes pealed for a newer set-up.... But that's just me....

2008 -
Excellent Condition $16,190
when purchasing from a dealer

2009 -
Excellent Condition $17,325
when purchasing from a dealer

I personally think those blue books are a little high, but whatever, you can see there is not even $1,200 difference.....

http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/3597867298.html

That's just my two cents.....

Thanks for the feedback guys.

After a few days of consideration, I'm going to buy back my 2008 Street Glide (assuming the current owner makes me a reasonable offer). A few of you mentioned the sentimental value associated with the fact that I was the original owner of this bike, and not to get too wrapped up in that sentiment vs. buying another, possibly newer SG. While sentiment plays a bit of a role, I have to say the $000s that I put into the mods to make it more comfortable for my taller frame is what I'm mainly focused on.

The current owner emailed me on Wed of last week and advised me that, indeed, he has decided to sell it. Now we just need to determine a price. I sold it to him (quite loaded) for $17,000. It had 10,000 miles at the time. The bike is now 5 years old and has about 18,000 miles on it.

I'll update this post as things progress, but I have to say I'm very excited to get back into riding and especially a bike as sweet as my 2008 SG shown below...

Default UPDATE on 2008 Street Glide (Repurchase from guy I sold it to...)

UPDATE: The gentleman I sold my Street Glide to (bike described in detail below) contacted me today with a price for me to buy it back: $15,500.

If I look at KBB and NADA, he's about $500 lower than the retail price for a Bone-Stock 2008 Street Glide. Private party value on KBB and NADA seems a bit harder to assess - there is "Trade-in Value" and retail. There isn't really a private party value (please correct me if I'm wrong here).

That said, this bike is anything but bone stock. I think the retail value of the stuff below is somewhere between $6k-$7K. Aftermarket value? Maybe $2000-$3000 I'd guess (including labor).

So... It seems like a pretty good deal. Given all of the height modifications I made to this bike, I'm thinking I'm going to move on it.

That said: I'm always appreciative to opposing views (or those that confirm my thoughts...)

I can definitely find 2008s on Craigslist in the $14K range, but none are set up remotely close to the one shown below.

Here's the kick in the crotch: Minnesota will charge me sales tax (again) on this bike even though its a private party sale.

Default Pretty good week!

Pulled the trigger and bought her back from the guy I sold her to 2 1/2 years ago! Also picked up a J&S Lift and 2008 HD Touring Bike Service Manual from Craigslist. Look out local HD Service Department, a bunch of incorrectly done maintenance work coming your way!

I underestimated how cool these lifts really are for cleaning and working on the cycle.

Nice to be back in the saddle! Now to do something about those ugly wheels..!

Congrats on getting your scoot back. With what it cost to tailor a bike to fit a certain person I think you made a very smart choice buying a bike that you know already fits you.

And, with the money saved verses a new bike this still plenty of funds a available to make future upgrade.

Hate to sound like a goof ball but if you have some emotional attachment to this bike it's a great story and opportunity to get her back.

If you don't have any attachment to it go for the 09 or up.
