Think of how many accessories you can buy for $1000 dollars. I like the radio in my '04 Ultra just fine. Hogtunes speakers are on the way and that will be all I need for sound. I have no intentions of sinking a grand in a radio that is not even fully developed yet. The dealer did not have any idea when the GPS system will be available or how much it was going to cost, but he was guess at around $500 bucks for that add-on. No way....I know the roads I travel, and if I need to know more....HOG sent me a mapbook.
Stick with what you have and enjoy the grand on the road.
I can justify it. Just ride in a nice heavy down pour with just a standard SONY in-car head unit and you'll wish you spent the extra 500 bills. That thing will short out in two seconds. I looked if I could use a marine head unit, but they don't have anti-skip capabilities. MANDMCYCLES.com is selling the H-K for $850. I just need to know if it'll work. $850 is still a bit steep for me to experiment with. The guy from Hogtunes says he maybe able to check it out.
From what I've been told by a dealer the new radio has a completely different harness. So while it might fit and you might be able to decipher the wiring diagrams and patch it in I would wait. There is bound to be an adapter of some sort in the near future that would make installing it much easier with less likelyhood to screw something up because the wiring diagram was wrong or you confused the black wire with the purple stripe with the purple wire with the black stripe.

You would think so, but not. I just spent 3 days / 1500 miles in hard off/ on rain. Yes the unit got wet, the display fogged a little, and diddn't skip a beat. After a night in the garage the fogging is gone.
Have you ever seen a Sony installed on a bike? They sit alot deeper into the fairing than the stocker. As long as you are moving the inner fairing stays dry on a TC. Also part of the Installation Kit is a Mylar membrane water barrier for the top of the radio.
Biketronics offers a slip on cover for the Sony if one feels they need extra protection from rain or washing.
Sony 5710 = $200.00 HK = $850.00 hmm.... looks like a $650.00 difference to me. To each his own. I'll keep my money, thanks.
