Reading through this forum when researching the lowering Monotubes it seems Progressive recommended 2 clips for a less harsh ride. I have no complaints at all about the ride with 1" lower and 2 clips. I figured I'd try the 2 clips first and if it was to soft I could pull it back apart and add a clip. I'm glad I did it this way first instead of installing 3 and having to go back and remove a clip.
1" lowered is still 1/2" over stock, which, on a street glide is now 1 1/2" higher compared to the rear. I lowered mine 2", now I am 1/2" over the rear. I really like how mine rides, the stock rear does suck, the front is very smooth. The bigger wheel does roll down the road better than the smaller 17"/18" wheel.
There is some members who have used 2 clips but the use the other bottoming spring to end up at 1 1/2" lowered, now back at stock height.
The mono tubes come with 3 clips per side and two different bottoming springs.
2" lowered is no clips and both spings
1" lowered is two clips and one of the springs, correct?

You are putting mono tubes correct? The oil is just to lube the bushings on the slider, has no effect on dampening. you will only use 5 oz. in each leg, I think the call for 7 or 10 wt.
