Default Anyone stayed in Hood River Oregon ?

Five of us are riding from Missouri to California in June. One of our stops is Hood River,Oregon. We are looking at Memaloose State Park to camp with our tents. Just wondering if anyone that knows that area could make some comments. We are also looking at the Vagabond Hotel in Hood River for a couple of the guys that may not want to camp. We have never been to Oregon but it sure looks beautiful in the pictures.

Haven't been to Memaloose but I am from the area. One thing I can say is anywhere right around there is extremely windy. When are you planning on coming through? Yhe weather around here is wierd. This friday is supposed to be 80 and by monday 55 and rain. Just be prepaired for anything. If it was me I would look at staying in The Dalles. It is a bigger city. More to do. I live in Pendleton. There is plenty to do here. It is about 2 hrs east of Hood River but I grew up just west of Hood River. There are a lot of good rides in the area. Have fun. Ride safe.

Hood river and surrounding area is an outdoorsman s dream spot. I was there about 12 years ago for windsurfing. We stayed one night at the HOod River Hotel (I think that was the name of it) it was an old hotel right on the main drag. Great hotel if you like old Victorian style and great price. We then camped east of hood river at Viento State Park. It was a great place, clean washrooms, showers friendly staff. We were there during the low season for windsurfing (last three weeks in May) so it was fairly quite. I think you would like the campground in hood river as it would have been nice to have stayed closer to the event site and hood river. A good place for a drink and to talk to some locals is the Full Sail Brewing Co. Not sure if it is still going or not but it overlooked the event site and met a few good people there. Overall, I found to was a great vacation place for hiking, biking, sailing, .... Whetever you do, it has it. You may also want to take a tour of the generating stations and a winery in Washington while there.

+ 1 on Full Sail Brewing, overlooks the Columbia River and great beers. Hood River is a neat little town with a lot of shops and places to eat.

I've stayed at the Best Western there. It's right on the river, clean, and a good value.
