true duels
At first my true duals were a disappointment until I found the right mufflers. No doubt about it the 2 into 1 produce more torque. The trade off is worth it for me to have real duals.Baggers do not look right without a muffler on each side. That is my opinion only.
Mine actually develops more torq with the factory H pipe on the rear cyclinder than it does with true duals. I got rid of the factory pipes to lower heat. I run modified SEIII mufflers. You might consider staying with the factory pipes and buying some slip-ons that have a little more flow.

It is true that 2-1 pipes will give you the most power. It is also true that the stock pipes are supposedly more power than the duals. It all depends on how much tiny torque you are willing to lose. I love the looks of the duals and I am not concerned about losing a little bit of torque of the looks and the loss of heat on the right side. Personal preference.

Isn't there a system that has a ghost pipe on one side to give you a 2 into 1 (for performance minded people) but the extra pipe for the look? Thought I saw posts about those somewhere before.
For the true dual fanatics..... here's a new option: http://www.danddexhaust.com/news/200...troduces_d.htm
2 into 1 for me, HANDS DOWN!

He's probaly refering to the fact that the V&H are a 1 3/4" pipe from head to slip-on. The Rineharts have a 3 stepped head pipe and promote scaveging a little better than the Vinie and Hineys. They are not horrible, Rineharts are a little better. 2-into-1 are going to make the best torque and midrange power. They sometimes limit top end a little depending on baffle. The great thing about duals is you can tune each cylinder independently with the SERT. The PC uses a blend. With the Sert you can fine tune each. Every bike I have Dyno'd with torque cones were on the floor in the dyno room by the time I was done. It's a gimick.
On this bike I've had stock headers with VH Oval slip on's, and now true duals with oval mufflers. The bike was quicker on the bottom end with the stock headers. It also ran a bit smoother. That said, the duals look great, sound better and after the initial bit of torque lag, they rock. There is nothing wrong with true duals of any type IMO, particularly once you get the rev's up. My 95" w/SE 203's pulls really hard. Last dyno with SERT got me 80 HP and 87 ft/lb torque, and it feels faster. The last bike had a 95", SE Heads, Woods TW-5G cams, Dyna jet, SE Race ignition, Roller Rockers, and a Thunderheader. I got about 100 HP and 104 TQ. It honestly didn't feel much faster to me. I don't know why.
That said, this coming Monday, I'm taking her in for the 10K service (ouch), and I'll be adding tires, brakes, Fatcat 2-1 with the Ghost pipe and some maintenence items like a squeaky throttle, rattle from the upper fairing windshield area, and a bit of a lumpy idle. Also, I've had problems keeping my left pipe on the VH's tightend down properly so they tend to need adjusting so as not to rattle a bit. All in all, I remember going from the VH Straightshots to the Thunderheader on my Fatboy. I never thought I would. After I did it, I never thought I'd ride anything but a 2-1 exhaust. It changed the whole personality of my bike...smoother...faster...richer sounding...and more torque. I do love my true duals though. The stereo exhuast sound and feel is just what I wanted my bagger to look and feel like, but I really believe the bike can and will run quite a bit better, in all areas with the Fatcat. I like having the ghost pipe option too.
