Backrest Question
Just did it a couple of weeks ago. The instructions could have been a little better, but you should be able to figure it out. Drop me a note is you have any questions.

Instructions are useless, just go for it.
I have RJ's Originals Heat Shields, lever is right behind it.
Can't see it, reach under on the road, it's right there.
No problem.

Yes, I have the adjustable rider's backrest.
Yes, I have mid-frame air deflectors.
Yes, I had the control hidden in behind.
Then I found that reaching down around the air deflector to adjust the backrest would put me too far away from the backrest to adjust it properly. Careful measuring, and some even more careful use of a dremel & thin cutoff wheel put the adjuster ON the left mid-frame air deflector. A little noticeable when at a stoplight, so I may shave the lever handle a little, but when feet on boards or highway pegs the lever is well out of the way.
Since the colors are black on black, it's not really noticeable unless you're looking.
Now I have better adjustment when riding, and can get the full range of adjustment out of the backrest.
