Default Earliest date to order a 14 model?

My buddy wants to order a 14 and would like to get the order in so it can be filled on the first shipment to the dealer BUT doesn't want to be strong-armed by a salesman to take a leftover 13. After a floor salesman tried to pump his ear full of sand a while back, he just wants to fill out the paperwork for a 14 and be done with it. Any solid information would be appreciated.

Not even considering what the motivation is to buy a '14 vs a '13, whether it's color or superstition or what - but if a salesperson tries to 'strongarm' you, just tell 'em to back the frack off...it's actually pretty easy to say "Dude, I'M the customer, and I want a '14. End of story."

Sorry. Got sidetracked. No, got no idea when the '14s will start coming in.

His dealer should have already ordered his first phase of 2014s. I submitted mine a couple weeks ago.

Just checked with a buddy who told me they had their orders in as well but MoCo won't be shipping them any till they sell down their '13 inventories.

Slight hijack - any differences for '14? New colors or other cool stuff?

With Harley Davidson, you can't go down to the friendly dealer and fill out an order form which is sent to the factory where they will put your bike together on a certain day. The way it works is that the dealers order bikes periodically and the MOCO sends them out periodically. You can however go to the dealer and tell them what you want. In turn, they will look at the computer and tell you if and when they have a bike ordered that matches your wants. Or, if they don't have what you want coming in the near future they can always get it from another dealer who either has your bike or will be getting it in soon, and do a dealer swap. At that point you give them some earnest money and the gen manager sends some kid out with the company pickup and a trailer and brings your new bike back to their dealership.
New bikes start to arrive at the dealership around August or so, about the time the have their annual dealership meeting in some exotic location like Vegas, Atlanta or BFE. Prior to that there are no pictures available to the public, only paint colors available for each bike.

tell the dealer you are willing to pay m.s.r.p. plus prep and freight for a '14...tell him what you want and put up some earnest money. you will be one of the first he calls!
