Default need exhaust install help

Finally got the damn exhaust off....should have used BryanTTM's tip and just used a sawzall....finally resorted to that after an hour of fighting it. My question is when installing the new exhaust head gaskets, anything i should do, not do. Appears to be alot of grease from the exhaust port....I assume i should clean all that out before putting on new gasket??

Thanks for you help!

Hmmm... I've installed a few exhaust over the years and I've never had grease at the exhaust port. Maybe I've never noticed it before...

What exhaust are you installing?

There shouldn't be too many issues with the install as long as you have the instructions that go with most exhausts. Like we say in the Army: "When all else fails RTFM -- Read The F-ing (or Field) Manual."

Most bolt on parts I've put on the outside of my bikes have fairly clear instructions that, if followed to the letter, keep you out of trouble.

I'm just wondering about the grease. I've never seen grease there on one of my bikes...Maybe someone with a lot more experience than me could help out here.

Never noticed any grease either. The engine would be hot enough at the exhaust ports that it would burn any grease away. Sounds like a piston ring problem.

Have you been able to get the trans mount off yet? That has to come off along with the starter bracket before you can mount the new exhaust....The gaskets that come with, I would toss and get some frome the dealer. I had the same pipe and once I had it adjusted it locked down fairly easy. The "p" clamp was a bit frustrating....
