Default 2up at stop light with unknown biker

On group rides we alway stop a red lights and stop signs two bikes in one lane. When you are following an unknown bike, not in a group ride do you stay behind him/ her at a light or pull up?

If there is room I pull up. Do a head nod and ride on!

I stay behind and to the right or left of him depending on where he is positioned in the lane. If I were to follow him after start up or to come up behind any bike while traveling on the road I always adjust my stagger to his position.

Not sure why but I tend to stay behind. I guess because I don't know the driver and not wanting to "intrude". If it were me in the lead, wouldn't bother me at all, just that everyone is different and never know what the other is thinking.

I will pull up and nod, but when the light changes let them pull ahead before taking off.
Kinda like penguins at the shore - never be the first guy to enter the intersection.

Pull up alongside but definitely let him pull away first. Continue in a staggered formation. Who knows, he just may pull in at the same watering hole you are headed to and you'll end up with a new riding buddy.

Usually I stay behind either to the left or right staggared. Sometimes if there is room enough, I pull up beside them, nod and let them take off first when the light turns green, just good etiquette in my book. Never really give it to much thought, just do it. No set rule that you have to follow. (none that I know of anyway, lol)
