I had a 08 streetglide and a 12 new frame is awesome plus you get a bigger rear tire 180 plus 18 inch up front
Handling is much better but a little stiffer ride a plus in my book
Lower first gear is more useable on the 12
My 96 ran strong but there is no substitute for displacement I would pay a few more bucks and go for a 09 or newer streetglide
I hope this helps
After owning an '08 AND an '09 up, I can say from experience you will be much happier with the '09 up if for no other reason the higher gear ratios on the '08 make the bike much more annoying to drive.
I have a 2012 Street Glide ( with a True-Track installed). My buddy had a 2007 Screamin' Eagle E-Glide. His take was that my 2012 handled considerably better.
well i have found a 2010 with 5500 miles on it for 16500. there does not seem to be many in my area in NH. I guess being few and far between they command a higher price in rural areas. the one i mention would be a 2 hour ride to look at it and it is not really the color i would like. red and black.

Dont settle for a bike color you dont like. Expand your search. I had to travel 300 miles to save 2k on my bike. Best 300 mile ride I had
can make a 96 incher faster then a 103 is a stupid statement!!! can make a 74 inch knuckelhead faster then a stock 103 also.... all comes down to stock form a 103 will whip a 96 incher all day everyday :-)
I own an '08.
Buy a '09+. If for no other reason, 08 is the bastard year. Parts are weird. It was a transition year, some new, some old. Just my .02 cents.

Drop a 204 cam in either bike, 103 or a 96 and they will scream. I will have to say that the 204 in a 96" seems to be almost the perfect combo for some reason or another...
