I have come across a great deal on a 2007 Road King. 22000 miles and very few add on extras. This bike is my step dad's so I know what kind of condition it's in and how it has been taken care of. This is my 4th bike but my first Harley. With 22000 miles should I be looking out for anything to be changed or replaced soon. I keep reading about tensioners among other things. Any advice would be great. He had a full fluid change and service at about 20000 miles.
The tensioner issues you read about were on '06 & earlier Twin Cams. In '07, they went to hydraulic units in the 96" motor which pretty much solved the problem.
I would nonethelss do a complete service on the bike, new oils;filters, etc. I have an '07 King & LOVE IT!

I agree with the above. My 2007 RKC Runs real strong. It's hard to beat a King.
It's the primary chain tensioner that's the problem. New design in '07. It's been updated 2 or 3 times and still not right. Lots of info on the problem. Do a search. Tensioner is made to rachet up and tighten the chain as it loosens. Most problems seem to occur after 30k miles. But does happen sooner. My tensioner was broken at 33k. I bought a Hayden M6 tenioner and a new chain.
You can spend too long reading up on stuff! There is nothing you need to 'fix', just carry on riding it as your step dad has been doing. If he has serviced it regularly, just carry on where he left off.
I love my 07 King, I bought the police model to get the oil cooler, larger stator, 103 engine, dual disc anti locks, etc..
Runs great and I love it.
You dont to worry about the tensioner issues of the 06 and earlier but the shoes still can wear out I am told, I plan to check mine soon, I bought mine with 32k on it for 10500$
I know where there are a couple of 2011's for 13,500 I am thinking about buying one of those too.
Anyway good luck, as long as yu are getting a good deal on it I would say go for it, its a great bike.
A deal I think would be under 11k$, I bought mine from a stranger for 10,500$
Its not about how much they put it into it it still is only worth so much being an 07.
Lump
Cable operated throttle
96" motor (1st year upgraded cam chest)
6 spd tranny
5 gallon tank (much better looking)
Brembo brake refitable
IDS refitable
All reasons I believe the best pre-'09 touring year
Reasons I own one....Great year!!
