I understand that lots of guys have installed stock Heritage mini apes in order to narrow the grips and bring them back closer to the rider. (And you can use all your stock cables too.)

I am 5'10"
I went with the Kromewerks 2+ 2+ sweepers and presto best thing I ever did 2inches higher and 2 inches closer.
They are slightly wider bars though but are so much better than standard FLHX bars.
I would go sit on a few mates bikes and see what suits you!

Took your advice and adjusted my bars tonite. I rolled them forward as far as they could go until they touched the inner fairing.
My biggest fear was removing the ignition, but after watching the video on here and following the shop manual it was a piece of cake. I found a little flat wrench in my toolbox to unlock ignition, it worked great.
The bars are now higher but a little farther away. Will have to give her a test ride tomorrow to see how it feels.
This site rocks. Thanks for the info.

Maybe those heritage bars might be an option also. Not to keen on having to change brake and clutch cables, but think I could do a bar swap no problem.
What other bars would fit without having to change cables?

Yep. That's what I did. I went with Khromewerks Heritagle Style because I really wanted the 1 1/4 inch bar. They are about 2 inches taller than stock and 2-3 inches more pullback. No extended wires or cables needed.

My wife is 5'5 and she went with the 10" Wild ones (WO578) and she loves them. Only downside is in cold weather your hands get more wind
Do you have to change cables with the Wild ones WO578? or can you use stock.

Why yes I do park in my garage. I must be missing the comment reason?
You need the next longer clutch cable for the wo578 which is only $45. I highly recommend them. Every ride I like them more and more
