Default Handlebar help

08 Ultra, 5' 6", Having trouble with deteriated disks from T4 to T11 in back.
Out for a ride today and went about 10kms before back started to pain. Need bars to be higher and back closer so I don't have to be hunched over. Maybe 2-3" higher, what would you guys reccomend? reduced reach, tallboy or something else. Maybe reduced reach seat?
If I can't find a solution, I might have to sell, last option.

I'm 5'7 and ride a 2010 Ultra and I installed 12.5 Wild One's. These bars have more pullback than most other bars. I am able to lean back into my riders backrest. I might mention my seat and backrest are by C&C. For me this is a very comfortable setup.

Before you start changing bars, have you tried adjusting your current ones? You may find you can achieve a more comfortable riding position quite easily. If you are reaching forwards to get to the bars at present, rolling them towards you will bring the grips closer. Costs nothing to try, might be just the right thing!

WO578. Right at the top of the fairing and more pull back. Adjustible

I am not reaching ahead so much but reaching down, rolling the bars towards me will just make them lower.

Nice thing about Apes is rolling them back makes them closer, not just lower like the stock bars. I am 5'11 and went with wild one's 12.5 (WO577) and it instantly relieved my back pain (which allowed me to concentrate on my tailbone pain). My wife is 5'5 and she went with the 10" Wild ones (WO578) and she loves them. Only downside is in cold weather your hands get more wind

What else do you need to order besides the bars, will clutch, electric, brake and throttle cables need to be replaced. and how much higher are they than stock.

I just installed 12" yafee classic bagger apes and I LOVE THE COMFORT...I put them on the bike while the inner and outer fairing were off and adjusted them then that way i wasn't depending on the fairing look....my shoulders feel better...bike turns better... i had to change all cables... 6" over on every thing.

They are probably 4" higher than stock.

When I did the 12.5" on my 2010 I reused the stock wires, just rerouted them under the stereo. I went with a +6 clutch cable, +6 front brake line, poly urethane bushings, and the "get a grip" grip set.

The only other tricky bit is the Throttle-by-wire. There is a molex connector in the bars that is near impossible to feed through.

There are two options to address this:
1. Screaming eagle upgrade from the dealer (no connector) for about $100
2. Cut the connector out, solder and shrink wrap the wires

I went with route 2 on mine and the wife's bike, worked well.

The only other pain is you need to disassemble all the deutsch connectors and feed just the wires and pins through the bar for all the controls. There is a tool for this, but someone on the forum recommended using a paper clip from inside the connector for each pin. That's what i did and it worked well.

Roll them up?! The reason I suggest making the best with what you have is partly cost, but also I was forever uncomfortable on my own bike and it took me several attempts to adjust my bars, a little at a time, but hey presto, they are great now.

You could also visit a local dealer and try the various touring models, to see if one of those alternative bars is more promising.
