Have you confirmed you have a 2008 wheel, with IDS? Assuming you currently have a 70T, a change to 66T will raise your gearing by 70/66 or 6%. In other words current 3,000rpm engine speed will drop to 2,828rpm at the same road speed. That gives an overall drive ratio of 3.18:1, which IMHO on a 5 speed trans is too much. Stock is 3.37:1.

So let us look at also fitting that DD6 and play with some numbers. Baker recommend changing the compensator from the standard 24T to 28T. On a stock bike with 32/70 belt drive, that will give a 5th gear of 3.32:1, almost identical to your current top gear, with a 6th 'overdrive' of 2.89:1. Baker also offers an alternative 27T compensator.

If we fit your 66T rear pulley, but fit a 27T compensator, hey presto, we get a 5th gear of 3.25:1, very close to your current top gear, with a 6th gear of 2.83:1, very close to the 6th gear above. How does that sound?

no I don't...im thinking its a 2007..so non -ids...both sides are same looking but I cant find any pics of a 2008 wheel on both sides...only see 09+

so don't know if the 08 just adds the bowl compensator to the wheel and is fastened that way with 5 bolts and then the outer pulley is just put on there with a bearing and then the vibration is nulled by the rubber isolators inside the bowl?

the gearing sounds good to use the 66 and the 27

According to Ronnies the 08 rear wheel is the same as your 07, the rear compensator is an add-on. That means you should be able to fit a 70T pulley, to keep your gearing as is, if you want to. A 27T front compensator is still worth considering as you will get slightly lower 1st gear, but still have an overdrive style 6th.

some say they can feel less vibration...then you also have the bearing failure...

You have an Evo, not a twincam! Your bike will be fine, I can assure you mine is, with the 07 set-up.

According to Ronnies H-D that is right. For parts details use their parts micro-fiche. A plan and parts coming together!
