Air filter question
My newly-acquired '05 ElectraGlide Classic came equipped with a Kuryakyn hypercharger, but the damn thing sticks out so far that my right knee is unhappy and thus I want to change it out for the OEM filter. Since the Kuryakyn has a K&N element I wouldn't mind keeping that while the rest of the thing goes onto eBay. My question is whether the K&N filter is compatible with the stock filter assembly.
Also, as a new H-D owner I'm wondering where all those OEM parts go when they are changed out in favor of aftermarket stuff. I know Harley owners do a lot of accessorizing and so there must be a mountain of OEM seats, pipes, gas filler covers, etc., out there in parts bins somewhere.

most of the stock stuff sits in garages- check local swap meets, or run a wanted ad on your local craigslist.
the product now on your bike is slightly better than the stock housing when judged for air flow.
I'd suggest you find another product which come with an oiled, washable filter media ( rather than disposable).
I use a ness big sucker on my 09, which uses the stock oval cover.
They make a version for your 05.
I use Screaming Eagles on my evo models, which used K&N, but I do not think the version for your bike comes with that style filter.
if you can get a stock housing, K&N may make a filter than fits it
if you want to look at a diagram and get H-D part numbers, the online parts finder is here:
