Question fork oil weight for road king

I am getting set to change my fork oil. I am overdue for it but better late than never. I am curious what make of fork oil and weight of fork oil everybody is using. Some I talk to say that too light and it dives worse than it does now and too heavy it doesn't take the bumps and skips. Can some of the road king owners tell me what you are using and what weight. My road king is a 2010. I know the manual says it takes 11 ounces but it doesn't say what weight just part numbers. I did do a search and didn't come up with much. Thanks in advance

Default Fork Oil Weight

I changed mine this winter. I used Spectro 15w fork oil.

Greatly reduced brake-dive and isn't harsh or too stiff.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking to improve the nose dive also. This gives me somewhere to start. My harley parts guy just quotes part numbers. Thanks

Get the Screaming Eagle Racing fork oil, and mix it 50/50 with the OEM stuff. The SE oil is just a little bit too stiff. The mix makes it just about perfect.

Or just go with an aftermarket 15W

buy the best fork oil on the market Bell Ray 15w....no mixing to get the right weight. If it's good enough for the dirt bikes it will be more than sufficient for our street bikes. Its what I used and you can find it at any ricer dealer.

first, the manual says to replace your fork oil at 50,000 miles. if you've got that on a 2010, let me salute you.

secondly, if you like the ride that you have now, then use type e (thats stock). if you'd like to firm it up a little, use a 50/50 mixture of the type e and the se heavy. want to firm it up even more? full se heavy. (thats what i ran in my road king, and am currently running in my roadglide). stay away from the race. that stuff will make your front end feel like it is full of concrete.

Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF. Try it you will like it. It is about equal to Bel Ray and about a 12 wt. It actually maintains its viscosity better than Bel Ray. It provides a great ride and a quart only costs about $10.

04 Road King. Just changed the oil with some Drag Specialty 20. I'd have to say that's about perfect for me and my riding. It is not harsh, at all. The pogo-sticking and diving while braking are gone. Slammed it through some stupid big potholes and it floated through with with an Oldsmobile like bump. Never bottomed out.

I am *very* pleased with this oil. If this isn't perfect for me, it's darn close.

I'll probably be swapping out the new oil I put in the rear shocks for this stuff. I used Amsoil 10 in the shocks, and thought it felt a little thin. Still does, more so now that the forks are so good.
