Congrats on your new scoot & thanks for defending our great nation. FLHX upgrades are many and will definitely lighten the wallet. Some of the 1st things to consider are:

1. Taller windshield (LRS is forum sponsor & has great deals).
2. Possible seat mod (MCC - another sponsor vendor w/awesome service).
3. Brighter lights (LED) for rear/tail & headlight (Custom Dynamics/Radiantz)

After that, let the upgrades begin:

1. Tuner to adjust AFR with motor upgrades.
2. Exhaust to give bike some sound.
3. Breather for added flow (open motor up).
4. Cams to give engine some "kick."

When these are complete, and some miles, you can incorporate all the "bling-bling" parts, or black-out to your heart's content. I'm sure there'll be many more recommendations, but start setting aside some of your tax-free ca$h now so you're ready to begin the work when boots land back in US of A. Cheers!

Welcome to the forums and the touring world soon after your return. Where you at over here? KAF here, done in Sept sometime. I have been gathering things from this deployment and cant wait to put em on. The bike will run great straight off of the floor but at the least I would definitely do the stage 1 and get rid of the cat. You are going to love it once you swing your leg over and start riding. You did not state your experience level, so if you have no experience at all, the military is going to make you take MSF before you ride, its a no brainer anyway. If you are comming from lighter bikes, dont let the initial weight intemidate you. You will be whipping it around in no time. Good luck and stay safe while you are sucking sand.

yeah, this hobby aint cheap for sure. there are lots of things to do to it, like everyone says. i think i'd ride the pi$$ out of it for about a month, then, figure out what you want to do with it and what you need to make your ride better. you might find out that you are satisfied with the bike pretty much as it is and only need to switch out a windshield or other minor custom mods to your liking. thanks for being there my friend. stay safe.
