Interesting thread.
I am also thinking of SE Street Cannons on my 2012 FLHX.
But I couldn't get a consistent answer from the dealerships as to whether or not these slip ons will affect the warranty and if a ECM download or change is needed if you are ONLY installing these SE Street Cannons. So I called Harley direct and the only answer the lady would give me is they WILL void your warranty as far as Harley is concerned. As far as whether a ECM download is needed we didn't get that far, as all this gal was interested in telling me was that they WILL void your engine warranty. Honestly I don't think too many dealer service depts. are going to go that far, but it sure would be nice if Harley and it's dealers would have consistent info. available to the owners of their products. Seems Harley is always trying to cover their *** and not looking out for the best interest of good customers.
I am picking up my new RK tomorrow. The dealership recommended the Street Cannons. I can't imagine they would recommend and install something that would void the warranty even before I buy the bike. I better ask to be sure though.
ZenGlide what restrictor plug are you talking about? The metal flap just inside the pipe?
The muffles I'm referring to are the stock SE slip-on mufflers that come on the new CVOs. If you'll look in the pipe with a flashlight, you'll see what looks like a crimped tube. That's the plug that restricts the exhaust from going straight through. A few inches above the tube you'll see a ring that's the point of attachment. You'll need to insert a dremel with cutting wheel just past that weld area and run the cutting wheel around the inside of the tube until it cuts through the tube and the plug falls out.

Look the dealer will tell you anything to make a sale.
According to the lady at the HD customer care center. pretty much anything that is not factory installed will technically void the warranty.
Now your dealer may and probably will honor your warranty with the SE mufflers installed especially if you buy them from them and have them installed by them.
But I think you should call a few different dealers and ask them how they would handle a warranty claim on the engine with non factory installed mufflers.
You might then start to see where the problem lies if you are concerned about you long term warranty coverage. The issue is that Harley won't give a definitive answer to the question about how THEIR SE street legal mufflers affect warranty coverage, they tend to leave it up to the individual dealerships. And that can be a frustrating situation especially when you are traveling and need warranty service or you just want to use a different dealer for you warranty service. But if you don't care or want this information then I guess" ignorance is bliss" may apply in your situation.

Sorry I call BS here. I've lived in CA. almost all my life been riding here since about 1975 and have never owned a motorcycle with stock pipes for very long and have never seen anything like the above.I have also never been ticketed for loud pipes ever. I do however have enough sense to roll off the throttle when I ride by the cops or roll out of my neighborhood at 5:00 AM.Not only have I changed the pipes on literally every bike I've ever owned I've also yanked all the smog crap off of them because they NEVER check it.
I go to the long beach bike show in Dec every year. The I ride home through long beach along PCH. Every year I see bikes pulled over for to loud of pipes. I know for a fact last year one was pulled over for this. I parked next to him as the police were leaving and he told me that was what his ticket was for. Another trap is laguna beach. People get tickets there all the time for loud pipes.

This is all nonsense. This has been established for years by a federal act that protects buyers. HD has to prove that anything they won't cover under the warranty is directly related to your specific modification. There is no way they will be able to prove any damage to your bike due to aftermarket pipes or slip ons. I wish people would stop this fear mongering on "warranty voiding" it's utter nonsense. Google Magnuson Moss act.
I had the Street Performance mufflers and switched to the Street Cannon. I like the sound of the Street Cannon over the Street Performance mufflers. They are a lot more throaty than the Street Performance. They are both very quiet at idle and I can hear the radio when on the road. Harley will not sell any product that are not EPA compliant. The Street Cannon are also a straight thru mufflers, where as the Street Performance are not. I read somewhere on this forum, Street Cannon are made by Vance & Hines.
