Default Tour Pak Hinges

Has anyone here installed the deluxe hinge set onto your tour pak at home? I have purchased one set and am a little nervous about drilling into the rivets. I have good quality bits. Are there any pictorial tutorials on here about that?

It's not hard at all. Take your time, lay your parts on a big bath towel. I have done 4 of these by myself. Make SURE you drill from the inside, and when you get to the ones behind the gaskets, use a gasket scraper, paint scraper or anything like that to hold down the rubber gasket. If I remember correctly, I used a 3/16 bit.

It's gotta be pretty easy, since I did it and didn't break anything or mess up the paint!

Drilling the rivets is not a problem. After you drill out the first one, you will see. You don't actually drill them "out", your drill but cuts deep enough to compromise the rivet and it will fall apart.

You can hold back the rubber gasket well enough by hand to drill out the rivets no problem. Just be sure to use brand new drill bits. Don't use any dull **** on this project. You will probably have to enlarge the old rivet holes just a little to accept the new hardware...or at least I did.

Do use another set of hands if they are available. The guys that do it themselves are taking a degree of risk of screwing up some expensive bodywork. Sure, you can do it yourself, but getting the ole lady to help when you are handling that tour pak lid is a good move for sure.

You know what they look like on the outside, and here's a shot of one of them on the inside:

Having a second pair of hands will come in handy when you install the new hinges.
Like the others have said....take your time..it's worth it.

Sharp drill bits! Two sets of hands helps, but not necessary. Just take your time and enjoy the end result.

A search here will give you a lot of tips. I did mine by myself. It is not all that difficult.
