I don't post much but I thought this was worth it. I just hit a bear cub on Little River Road outside Gatlinburg. No damage to me, the bear or the bike. He might have a sore head in the morning. I couldn't stop to check him because of the location and traffic but he should be thankful it was me and not all the cars behind me that met him. He was running up the hill from the river and I saw movement to my right thinking it was a small animal I was already on the brakes. He caught my floorboard, flipped it up and ran off. I crapped ! Just wanted to share, thanks!
Damn that's the oddest thing I've ever heard anyone hitting. I about hit a loose cow once as it stepped out of a cornfield onto the road. I know the feeling.
I would not have stopped any way , not because of traffic but mama I bet was close , glad you and the cub was ok though , that will teach a bear to take on a hog
you were lucky for sure.
i hit a deer a week ago, or should i say it hit/ran into me. i was on my early morning commute, on a country road connecting to the four lane and i came around the corner at about 55 and two deer were standing on the left side of the road of the two lane. most of the time, the deer bound away when they hear/see me. this time one went left....and the other came right. if i had of hit the brakes, i would have taken it broadside so i twisted the throttle and hoped to scoot through as i had no shoulder to run on either. well, i almost made it by. its head/snout hit my crash bar around my saddle bag....i felt it bang as i went through. i didn't stop till i got to work. no damage and no deer on the side of the road on the way home. bet it had a banging headache. next day, same spot....only one deer. ride safe.
I had a close encounter with one last summer on the Tail of the Dragon. It was dusk and there was little traffic, he was just about on the roadway when I came around a corner. Luckily he turned around and ran the other way...
Glad it turned out like it did. Been to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg so many times and the only bears we see are at Three Bears General Store....Have seen all the other wild life around there but no bears.
