Go with Capt Itch. The others don't work anywhere near as good, if at all. Those others block a little heat, but wait until you are sitting at a stop light you will find they don't block anywhere near enough heat. Capt Itch's does rub the paint a bit, not bad, not off for sure, but he can make them any way you want. Just ask him to cut them so they don't touch the paint or add some soft material to them. I have a couple of them, one is extended forward quite a bit because I was still getting burned at my knees, so Larry made me a custom job. For 9 months out of the year I use the regular one, but when it is really hot I put the larger one on. The point is, however you want it just ask and he will make you a custom fit. Also they do not curl up or flap in the wind. My extended one is so long it might but it goes up behind the cow bell on one side and the AC on the other so it can't. The regular ones, no way will they flap.
Thanks for the input thusly received. I especially appreciate the words from those of you who have used both types and were able to give me a comparative view of them.
jjnoble, if you happen to have a picture of your custom sized extra large cooler, I'd sure be interested in seeing it.
Go with the Captain! Biggest bang for the buck mod you'll ever put on your bike!! As far as "flapping/curling, and paint rubbing" goes, ABSOLUTELY not an issue. Order it and see for yourself. He guarantees your satisfaction, so there is nothing to loose!
Got some crotch coolers for my 2010 Ultra Classic, worked great and put them right over the plastic ones so i had both. don't look bad that way either. moved them to my 2013 limited....no problem with flapping or paint on either bike. also got a drink holder for my lower fairing to replace the cover. works great instead of the cover. got some wraps for my saddlebag bars and my crash bars. all i can say is great service, good quality product and quick shipments. don't think you can go wrong with the cpt and isabele great folks.
I've got the Capt's, plus they're great people. I had to modify the crotch cooler and ask about restitching it where I cut it. They said cut it however I wanted and they'd restitch it for free. Small family shop and He returns ALL calls and emails.
Look them up on the internet. No more fried thighs are great. I have had mine for almost 5 years now and they still look and function great. I couln't do the plastic thing.

I did the same thing and put Captn' Itchs crotch cooler over the factory ones one my 2012 ultra. The factory ones hold the crotch coolers out a little more for good air flow under neath while the crotch coolers give your thighs better protection and it looks good once they are on a couple weeks and mold into shape. Great small business and product!
I don't think I could do the plastic on my bikes. Have had the Capn's on my Ultra for 4 years and it still looks great. Doesn't flap at all, hasn't rubbed any paint off and I really don't even know its there. They are tight the first time you put them on but after that they come on and off super easy. Wife has one on her Heritage but it is only 1 year old. After she finished her first ride, coming from an EVO, first thing she said was "that thing is hot to sit on". Immediately went in and ordered a crotch cooler. Again, no issues and with concho's, stitches, jewels, etc. you can make it look custom on almost any bike.
Have several buddies that also use the Capn's stuff and all are satisfied.
Great folks to deal with and all of their products are top notch. We have 2 crotch coolers, 3 drink holders, and a belt. Want something custom? Call them.
