Default Question on Engine Idle Temperature Mgmt. System

Hey guys, First off just wanted to let you guys know just upgraded from my 2012 Softail Heritage to a brand new 2013 candy orange Road Glide Love it and Very excited. So on to my question: I live in NY Queens to be exact and at times it is warm, real warm lol.So do I keep EITMS on or off? What do you guys think? Please let me know. Does it hurt the engine by leaving it active all the time?

Turned mine off when I wanted the heat, back on now as these things are ovens on wheels.

I thought it was strange at first but you will appreciate it.

well, on.

it's great technology..the turn off the fuel and spark to the rear cylinder and pump cool air through it...
that cool air carries heat out from the hottest parts of the motor to the atmosphere.

it is only activated when there is:
no throttle input
speed below 1 mph ( so stopped)
and either clutch pulled in or neutral selected

I often activate mine manually by rolling the throttle forward and holding it there

it's kinda hot where I live

We rode to Helen Ga. week before last and got caught in traffic going n and mine started kicking on. It would cool down and really wasn't that bad. My friends with some 2012 CVO's running Thundemax tuners would not shut off to 1 cylinder and there's like to burnt them up. So I would run it on and if I chose to tune it I'd keep that in mind as well whether I'd choose a tuner that looses the heat mngt mode or not.

what? usually, when i read your posts, i take your advice/opinion pretty seriously, but this time you missed the mark.

first, you cannot 'activate' it manually. you can enable/disable it, but unless certain conditions exist, you can not force it into eitms mode. now those conditions are:

engine temperature greater than 287*
twist grip at idle position
veh speed under 1 mph
engine speed under 1200 rpm

to kick it out of eitms mode, all you have to do is change any one of those variables

to the op: no it will not hurt your engine to leave it enabled. now if you want to leave it 'active' by sitting there idling for hour upon hour, then you might have problems....

Skratch, I am purdy sure that Mike knows EITMS can not be activated manually. Im sure that the word activate was simply a poor choice of word & yes, enabled is what was meant.
OP, no, it will not hurt a thing to leave EITMS enabled all the time. I never disable mine but it never comes into play anymore, even in stop and go traffic on the hottest Ga. days. This is thanks to Jason's FCS fans. These things work great! They lower my oil temp 30 degrees. Jason is a great guy and stands behind his products unconditionally! You may want to consider these. www.wardspartswerks.com Jason is a member here & offers discounts to HDForum members. Check out "Built the best cooling system again" thread on here. The tricky part (for me) is to remember that it is enabled - in my case after a few years of it never activating, it kicked in trying to get through downtown Sturgis one night. [I'm almost never in stop and go traffic]

It took a few WTF/panic moments to figure out what was going on.
