My friend is looking at buying a 2001 RK with 12k miles. Bike is clean, one owner, and has been well mantained. Anything to look out for with this year?
+1 on cam chain tensioners. They grenade without warning and can ruin the cam. If they have not been replaced (unlikely at 12K mi) it's a big bill to do it. Get a quote from your local shop/dealer and use that as you calculate a fair price. With that exception, it was a good year for RKs.
Thats true....butt.. for most, thats 5 years riding or so..
Funny, last week coming up at 50,000, i looked at my new wazoo SE hydraulic tensioners. Pretty much worn out. I replaced them...Think you can just replace plastic tensioner ???
Nope, buy the whole thing...Thats even funnier
Agree with Wheel752, not a cent over $10k. My friend who passed away earlier this year, his 02 RKC with leather tour pack and 16k went for $9500. Of course that was an estate sale................estate offered it to his best friend though for $12.5k..........jerks
I bought a 2001 road king from a local shop. had it listed for $8900 i believe. added warranty, paid $10,300. bike had 11,140 mi. on it. had it since Nov.2011 and now has 20,700 mi. took off stock exhaust to install a samson powerflow 111 2 to 1 exhaust, so i checked the cam chain tension shoes at 20,400 mi. no wear at all. looks brand new. been running mobil1 20-50 mostly with a little lucas heavy oil stabilizer. seems to be doing good. last oil change i used 20-50- valvoline mc oil with lucas.
