When just cruising around town, I shift around 2500. Rarely rev to over 4k, unless merging in traffic or some other reason to get speed quickly. To constantly shift at over 4k is totally unnecessary in 1st to 3rd gear......just wasting gas and looking for speeding tickets in 5th or 6th.
Being an engineer and kind of knowing how they might think. The system is probably designed for smoothest operation around the speed/rpm it will be at most of the time. Baggers are for the most part highway machines. The rpm around 70 mph in 6 th gear is probably close to optimum. Just sayin
My '09 Dyna had a sweet spot between 2500-3000 RPM, no matter which cam was in it (stock, 26H, 48H). My '13 SG has a sweet spot starting at 2000 RPM up to 3000 RPM even with the 57H cam in it. For normal cruising I've always shifted around 3000 RPM.
Cruise around 2500-a little over 3000, thats 64 on a 2 lane hwy comming home from work, bike is happy happy happy there. When the kids are outside they hear the tunes before they hear the bike comming home
What RPM level do you run your bike at. I've got a stage 1, slip ons and thundermax. Local shop said to run it around 4-5k rpm but that sounds high.
maybe between shifts? if i'm running 70mph down the highway, in 6th gear, i'm only pulling 3k rpms. i don't think i want to cruise the highway in 4th gear
I used to cruise around at about 22-2300 but have adjusted that upwards to around 2800. I like the better 'get out of trouble' throttle response I get at the higher rpm range.
